TWO YEARS …

Two years mark since the Russian invasion of Ukraine. From the beginning, AOM responded to God’s calling to support and help heal our Ukrainian brothers and sisters. Thank you for all your support!

OUR RESPONSE SINCE THE BEGINNING

We have deployed 54 teams to Poland, Ukraine, and the Poland-Ukraine border - serving in very practical ways, praying for people, and sharing the love of Jesus.

Since February 2022, we have responded in multiple ways: providing the initial phase of trauma care to both adults and children (as well as training nationals in how to provide trauma care), operating a kids center in one of the largest refugee centers in Poland, serving on the border those who are fleeing the ravage of war, bringing awareness regarding the ongoing threat of traffickers (in partnership with Unbound Now), and feeding some of the poorest families in Ukraine (as assessed by the Ukrainian Social Services Department).

In the summer of 2023, we launched teams to do sports camps that serve younger children and teens - all with the assistance of churches and government leaders.

In all that we do, national partners are instrumental in how we engage with Ukrainians. They consistently assist us in evaluating and determining the most fruitful locations for sharing the love of Jesus and making disciples.

STORIES FROM

THE FIELD

Sergii was preparing to leave the country as a volunteer missionary to Spain before the war in Ukraine. As a father of six, he and his family had the means to flee Ukraine. However, Sergi's wife demanded that they stay in Kyiv to fight, not in the military, but as the church, fighting for God's people. Sergii was still determining what to do and struggled to decide whether to stay in Kyiv or go to Spain. During prayer, he heard the Lord say, "This house that you have built will be protected in this war and will remain untouched."

“This house that you have built will be protected in this war and will remain untouched."

In a situation where fellow pastors had left the country, this word from the Lord began Sergi's commitment to the Ukrainian church and the basement church in his house. He offered his basement to church members during lockdown for several weeks at the beginning of the war.

Day and night, Sergi and Ira provided food, water, medical care, and spiritual support for these in-country refugees.

Around the same time, Sergi's kids told him that starting a church was the only way to fight. Sergi agreed to start a church if more than 25 people attended. The first service consisted of 27 members. The church has now grown from 27 members to over 500 committed members.

With the help of AOM, Sergii continues to support the family of God by providing food, water, medical assistance, and spiritual care in Kyiv and surrounding cities.

I remember one day during our Trauma Care Training in Kyiv, I sat next to a lady in her 80's. I asked if she wanted to join me and answer some questions that were given by the lead facilitator.

The elderly woman started to share a bit of her story. She shared how she often sleeps in the train station out of fear of her abusive son. She was covered in bruises and couldn't move well because of the pain.

“I see her, and she is not forgotten”

At that moment, I felt her despair and hopelessness, it was heartbreaking. No one should experience such treatment, especially from their own family and her being advanced in years. At the same moment, felt God's presence and hope. The Lord said to me, 'I see her, and she is not forgotten' I felt how much hope He not only wanted to give her but to become hope for her. She stayed through the whole session and received healing and hope. Now she is a member of the local church we partner with.
