May is the hottest month in Chennai and from May 22nd - 30th, the day temperatures can cross 43 degrees Celsius! Every summer since 1999, volunteers from Acts of Mercy, get together, make and distribute buttermilk around the city to traffic policemen, road workers, construction workers, street vendors and a lot of others who worked in the scorching sun. About 500 to 1000 litres of buttermilk have been made each time and teams of people split into groups to distribute cool, hygienic buttermilk to these deserving people.

Prominent chief guests, namely - Mr. Robert Sivanandi, IPS, Mr. Pradeep Philip, IPS and Mr. Walter Dewaram, IPS had flagged off each of the 'Moru Masala' events and supported this simple act of kindness, People from all walks of life like artists, students, businessmen etc have participated and supported this creative act of kindness in the city.
