This Rehab program focuses on restoring Tsunami affected families with livelihoods. Until recently the fishermen would not venture out to sea partly for safety and because of lack of repaired boats and motors.

Since the disaster struck, Acts of Mercy has repaired 40 damaged boats and motors in 5 fishing villages already and more work –in – progress is on for the same.
Our team in coordination with local community members identified most of these fishermen who required help. For the purpose of carrying out motor repair work, a place in Mahabalipuram functions as a workstation. Acts of Mercy staff, personally supervise all the repair work.
Wherever repaired boat launch event has taken place, the fishermen have already started using the repaired fishing boats and selling fish in the market. This has given them hope and courage to revive their livelihood.

The enormity of the disaster is so huge that there is a continuing need of repairing boats and motors for those fishermen who have not received any assistance. Acts of Mercy has taken up boat/motor repair for those fishing villages too.
