Health care access is not only rare but also unaffordable in the fishing villages we work in. The following are some of the areas Acts of mercy functions:
Medical / Eye camps
Acts of mercy has been periodically conducting free medical camps in some of the villages on the East coast road. Patients are screened for minor illnesses and basic health issues. General Medication mostly multi Vitamins are distributed free of cost. Health camps easily cover, nearly 500 to 600 patients at one time. Cataract and other eye ailments are very common with the fishing community and spectacles with frames are distributed free of cost. Those requiring cataract operation are taken back to hospital for surgery.
CSI KALYANI GENERAL HOSPITAL and ACTS OF MERCY
The community we work in is often deprived of quality health care for illnesses requiring specialized treatment .
This tie up with the Kalyani hospital is a result of witnessing the underprivileged community members paying huge amounts in private hospitals ,at the cost of sometimes taking loans to repay their debt.
At the Kalyani hospital patients are treated for both minor illnesses and specialised care. Acts of Mercy sponsors the entire cost of treatment of patients referred to the hospital.
Health Center
Our future goal is to open a health care center, which will provide quality health care at an affordable price.
Physiotherapy
Nadine Esthers a German physiotherapist, has volunteered to provide her expertise to the people who require physiotherapy in all the coastal villages. 'Acts of Mercy' is sponsoring the treatment of such patients.
